After the loss of my beloved “Bub” (kitty cat I had for 12 years) I was heartbroken and lonely. Bub kept me company and would meet me at the door after a long hard day at work. We spent hours snuggling in the rocking chair keeping each other warm. My daughter MaLeia suggested I look into getting a dog. While my daughter was growing up our household always had kitty cats and never a dog; the biggest reason we were “cat people” was because I worked full time and we both attended school and there was limited time to take care of a pet. In many ways cats are lower maintenance than dogs; they use a litter box, they sleep most of their life and you can leave them alone for longer periods of time.

I began giving a great deal of thought to getting a dog. Although I still work full time, I am able to come home at lunch and spend time with a puppy and let them outside to do their business. I decided “yes” I would go for it and get a puppy. After the decision was made the real work began; research, research and more research; what kind of dog should I get? I googled “dogs and their temperament”, “what kind of dog should I get”, and the “Dog Breed Selector”. I came to the conclusion that a “Havanese” would be the best fit for me. During my research I was so thrilled to find “Heavenly Havanese” a breeder only an hour from my home. I went online to and put a deposit/reservation on a puppy (didn’t matter if it was a boy or girl) I just wanted a healthy well socialized puppy. Julie, the owner of Heavenly Havanese, was so patient, kind and informative during the process of me finding a puppy. I texted and called her numerous times inquiring about the litter and when the puppies would be available as well as many other questions. I felt like we had developed a kinship.

The day came when I received a text from Julie, “Avery gave birth to three beautiful baby girls”. I was over the moon with excitement!!! For the next 8 to 9 weeks Julie would send me updated photos and keep me informed how Avery and her girls were doing. The hardest part came next, which of the three girls will I pick?

“Julie invited me and a girlfriend to come to her home and meet the three girls face-to-face and make my choice. We played with all three but the minute I picked up my girl, I fell in LOVE!!!”

Two weeks before my puppy could come home and I still had some preparation to do. What kind of food, bed, and toys should I purchase? I read all the articles Julie had posted on the web site and they were extremely helpful. Great Information!!

Last but not least, what will I name my puppy? I remember as a little girl I read the book and later watched the movie (starring Haley Mills) called Pollyanna. Pollyanna is a best-selling 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Porter that is now considered a classic of children’s literature, with the title character’s name becoming a popular term for someone with the same very optimistic outlook on life. Someone who is always very happy and believes that only good things will happen, I couldn’t think of a more perfect name.

With all that being said, Pollyanna, the Optimistic Glad Girl (her AKC full name) has made me very happy; she has brought me endless joy and laughter. She is so smart, performs numerous tricks and displays uncanny intuition for knowing my mood and what to do to improve it. Her coat is stunning with soft curls; it is true the Havanese breed do not shed.

Pollyanna loves to get a bath and blow dry. After wards she prances about the house like a diva princess. She has a special place in my lap while we both watch our evening TV and snuggle in the rocking chair.

Walks have become part of our daily routine we visit with the neighbors and their dogs and sometimes George the cat. She greets everyone with excitement and a wag of her tail. Twice a week Polly goes to “Doggy Daycare” and shows her enthusiasm by howling as we approach the building; it is cute to see her get so excited.

There are not enough words to explain how much this wonderful animal has done for me and my family. I cannot imagine my life without her.

I would like to thank Julie for the obvious love and support she shows to the care and welfare of the Havanese breed. You can tell she loves what she does. Avery, Pollyanna’s mother, is beautiful with an amazing temperament.

Pollyanna, she is truly a blessing.

P.S. If there is anyone out there hesitating about bringing a Heavenly Havanese into your home, don’t. Take a chance, you will not regret it!!!
